Claims about 'Israel' or 'the occupation' that don't say which territory they concern — Israel within the 1949 lines, East Jerusalem, the West Bank, or Gaza — so that facts from one travel to conclusions about another.

Questions to ask
Which of the four territories does this fact describe? Which one does the conclusion target? Would the claim still hold if the territory were named?

'Israel has two legal systems, so Israel must be dismantled' — West Bank facts, whole-state remedy.

'Arab citizens vote, so there is no apartheid' — territory 1 facts, silence on territory 3.
Four territories, four legal situations.
1) Israel within the 1949 armistice lines ('Green Line'): Israeli law; about 2 million Arab citizens with the vote. 2) East Jerusalem: annexed by Israel (1967/1980), not recognised internationally; most Palestinian residents hold permanent residency, not citizenship. 3) The West Bank: under military occupation since 1967; Areas A/B/C under the Oslo accords; Israeli settlers under Israeli law personally, Palestinians under military orders. 4) Gaza: Israel withdrew soldiers and settlers in 2005; Hamas ruled from 2007; Israel and Egypt maintained a blockade; war since October 2023. The Golan Heights is a fifth case (annexed 1981, Syrian territory under international law).

How the slide works.
The strongest evidence behind 'apartheid' and 'settler colonialism' concerns the West Bank; the slogans apply it to Israel as such. In the other direction, 'Israel is a democracy with equal rights' is true of territory 1 and silent about 3; 'Judea and Samaria is Israel' erases the difference that international law, and most of the world, recognises.
Why it works on us
- Israel controls, in different ways, all four areas, so treating them as one system has a real basis.
- The 1949 armistice lines were never agreed as final borders, and Israeli governments themselves blur them (maps without the Green Line, settlement expansion).
- For Palestinians, family, land and identity cross all four areas.
