Why people find it convincing
- Islamist terror in Europe is real and has targeted Jews specifically — Toulouse (2012), the Brussels Jewish Museum (2014), the Hypercacher supermarket in Paris (2015) — as well as the public at large (Charlie Hebdo, the Bataclan).
- Hamas's founding charter is openly religious: it calls itself a wing of the Muslim Brotherhood and quotes a hadith about Jews hiding behind stones and trees (Art. 7). October 7 was celebrated in some European streets.
- European surveys of Jews report that a large share of the most serious antisemitic harassment they experience comes from people they perceive as holding Muslim extremist views.
- Christians and other minorities have been driven out or persecuted in parts of the Middle East by Islamist movements (ISIS, attacks on Copts), which makes 'first the Saturday people, then the Sunday people' feel like experience, not slogan.
What's true
Islamism is a real, violent, antisemitic political force, and Jews in Europe feel it first.
The Muslim Brotherhood tradition that produced Hamas, Khomeinist Iran and its proxies, and Salafi-jihadist groups all combine a political programme with religious justification, and their antisemitism is explicit in their own documents. Attacks on Jewish targets in Europe by Islamist perpetrators are documented, and so is the fear they cause. Saying so is not bigotry.

What's left out
Islamism is not Islam, and Muslims are its main victims.
The argument moves from movements to a religion of about two billion people (see 'Which Islam?'). Most victims of jihadist violence worldwide are Muslims. Most Muslims belong to no Islamist movement; the largest Muslim-majority countries have fought Islamist insurgencies themselves. Egypt and Jordan made peace with Israel, the UAE, Bahrain and Morocco normalised relations in 2020, and Moroccans widely treasure their Jewish heritage — the 2011 constitution names its 'Hebraic' component. Inside Israel, Muslim citizens are doctors, judges and Knesset members, and an Islamic party (Ra'am) sat in the 2021 coalition. And Islamic history includes long periods when Jews fared better under Muslim rule than under Christian — al-Andalus before the Almohads, the Ottoman Empire that took in Jews expelled from Spain — alongside discrimination (dhimmi status) and massacres. Both are true.

Names the Arab-Islamic, Amazigh and Saharan-Hassani components of national identity, 'enriched by its African, Andalusian, Hebraic and Mediterranean influences' — wording to verify.
Also omitted: the Palestinians barely appear in it.
In this framing the conflict is the West against Islam, and Palestinians become stand-ins for jihadists in Europe — including Palestinian Christians, secular Palestinians, and the many who want a state, not a caliphate. It is the mirror image of the antizionist frame, in which Israelis become stand-ins for Western colonialism. In both, the people who actually live there disappear behind somebody else's war.

A war on a religion — the same logic that has been used against Jews.
If Islam itself is the disease, every Muslim is a carrier: the remedy becomes excluding, expelling or fighting Muslims as such, in Europe and in the Land of Israel. That is collective guilt — the reasoning antisemitism used against Jews for centuries ('the Jews are a nation within the nation, an ideology, a disease'). It also hands Islamists what they want most: confirmation that the West is at war with all Muslims. The narrower claim — that specific Islamist movements are dangerous and must be confronted — survives on its own and needs none of this.
